Interpretation of dogs in dreams
In case the dog is familiar, it is a supporter and a friend, and if it is unfamiliar and alien, it can be dangerous and irritating. The same thing is also true about dreams.
If you see a dog that is obedient and tame and follows you and understands your words and gestures in your dream, you are safe and your dream means that you will not be injured and a friend supports you, and if you have a close friend, you can trust him completely because a familiar, calm, and obedient dog is interpreted as a friend.
Meaning of an stranger dog in dreams
In case you dream that a dog is not familiar to you and you have not seen it, you should worry about the people who are around you because they may not have kind intentions in relation with you. If the dog was an alien and attacked you, your dream means that a wicked and troublesome enemy wants to harm you, and you need to escape and stay away from it.
If you see in your dream that you have been surrounded by lots of dogs, you enter a group in which you are a stranger. They do not accept you and are pessimistic about you. You are also afraid of them and do not trust them. In any case, you will not have a good relationship with them, but if dogs attack you in such a situation, it is not good at all.
Meaning of the dog’s bark in dreams
The bark of a dog is interpreted as a slander, politics, swearing and cursing, and if you hear the bark of a dog in a dream but do not see the dog, it signifies the fact that you are being gossiped about, and conspired against.
If a dog is familiar and tame and makes noises, it can be interpreted as an insult and your dream means that you will have an unpleasant encounter with someone who says hostile and offensive words to you.
Interpretation of dreams in which a female dog attacks you
Ibn Sirin has written that a female dog is a wicked and lazy woman, but it is not possible to distinguish between a male and a female dog in a dream, unless our mind testifies to it or the dog has a puppy with it.
However, if a female dog attacks you while sleeping, you should protect yourself from the danger of a mean woman who is bothersome and dangerous.
Dreaming the attack of a dog is not happy and good, but most of its importance depends on the dog’s greatness.
If the dog is big, rapacious and savage, it is a strong and very dangerous enemy, but if the dog is weak and small, just like the small and ornamental dogs that some people keep in their houses, it is a powerless enemy that is not able to hurt.
A chained dog dream interpretation
Seeing this type of dog in a dream is not a dangerous sign. If you dream that you have tied a dog with ropes and chains and you are taking it with you, you will make friends with someone who is inferior to you.

What does it mean to feed a dog in a dream?
If you dream that you are feeding a dog, you will get rid of sorrow, and if a dog grabs or steals a prey from you and eats it, you will suffer from a financial loss and someone will deceive you in order to rob some money. If it is a female dog, a woman will cheat on you and steal your money.
If you dream that you have a dog in your house (provided you do not have a dog when you are awake), there is a dishonest person in your house, and again if that dog is a female and you know that you keep a female dog, a woman who is close to you is not telling the truth to you and the same woman will cheat if she finds an apt chance and opportunity.
Dog escape’s dream meaning
If you dream that a dog is afraid of you and escapes, you will irritate the person you do not like, but that person, whoever he is, may love you because dogs are famous for their loyalty.
If you annoy a dog in your dream and that dog returns to you while it is weak and miserable, it is good because your dream says you are doing something wrong, but your benefit is to act against your will. In this case, the weakness that the dog shows in your dream is the omen of victory in awakening.
A hound is a humble friend who serves and cannot hide and destroy his mischief. If you dream that a dog brings something for you in its mouth, it is good because it will benefit you.
Interpretation of dog dreams by Western interpreters
Western interpreters have interpreted dog dreams in a completely different way from the Islamic and Eastern interpretations. This difference is due to their different relationships with dogs. I also wrote in the introduction that our view of people, animals and things affects our interpretations.
Westerners consider dogs as human beings’ best friend, thus in Western dream interpretation sources, dogs are considered as a close friend, a powerful and loyal supporter, while we consider dogs to be dirty, unclean and unhygienic animals. They kiss their dogs in their mouth while we regard the dog’s mouth to be dirty and if the dog touches a dish with its mouth, we rub it seven times with ablution sand in order to clean it.
Westerners have no problem with dogs and their presence in their living environment, while dogs in Eastern cultures have long been used only for livestock’s survival and have a special position.
This is why in the interpretation of dog dreams, the Western and Eastern interpretations are very different and consequently depend on the mindset of the dreamer.
